Historical Significance

Roman-era regional capital (Gophna) after the First Jewish-Roman War. One of the oldest continuously inhabited Christian communities in Palestine, maintaining a Christian majority since the 6th century. The village's location on the ancient Jerusalem-Nablus road made it a historic waystation.
