Historical Significance

Traditionally identified with biblical Bethel, where Jacob's Ladder vision occurred and where Jeroboam established the golden calf cult. The site has been a place of religious significance for over 3,000 years. The Beit El settlement took its name from this biblical association, building on Beitin's land.
