Overview

Ya'bad (Arabic: يعبد) is a historic Palestinian town in the Jenin Governorate of the northern West Bank, located approximately 18 km southwest of Jenin city. Situated on the slopes of the northern West Bank hills at an elevation of around 360 meters, Ya'bad is surrounded by ancient olive groves and is one of the oldest continuously inhabited settlements in the region, with archaeological evidence dating to the Bronze Age. Since the Israeli occupation began in 1967, Ya'bad has suffered from land confiscation for the nearby Mevo Dotan settlement (established 1977) and the Dotan checkpoint, which controls movement between Jenin and Nablus governorates. The town has been a center of resistance during both Intifadas and has endured repeated Israeli military incursions, punitive home demolitions, and settler attacks on its agricultural lands.
