Overview
Tayibe is a Palestinian town in the central Triangle region, one of the largest towns in the area. Before 1948, it was a village of about 4,000 residents cultivating grains and olives on the fertile lands of the coastal plain. During the 1948 Nakba, Tayibe came under Israeli control and was subjected to military rule until 1966. Significant agricultural land was confiscated for Jewish settlements including Tzur Natan, Eliyahu, and others, as well as for military bases and infrastructure. The town has grown to over 45,000 residents, making it one of the largest Palestinian towns inside Israel, but faces severe overcrowding and limited municipal services.
Historical Significance
Large Palestinian town in the Triangle; exemplifies systematic land confiscation and overcrowding; strong community identity.
