Overview
Tamra is a Palestinian town in the Lower Galilee, located about 9 km east of Acre. Before 1948, it was a village of approximately 1,500 residents that cultivated the fertile lands of the Galilee plain. During the 1948 Nakba, Tamra came under Israeli control but avoided complete depopulation, though some residents were displaced and the town was subjected to military rule until 1966. After 1948, large portions of Tamra's agricultural land were confiscated for the establishment of the Jewish settlement of Yas'ur and other purposes. The town has grown significantly through natural increase but faces severe land shortages and overcrowding, as confiscated lands were never returned. Tamra is known for its olive groves and traditional agricultural heritage.
