Overview
Surif is a Palestinian town located northwest of Hebron city, in the western part of Hebron Governorate. An ancient agricultural community, Surif has historically been known for its olive groves, vineyards, and fruit orchards. Since 1967, Surif has faced severe land confiscation for the Gush Etzion settlement bloc — one of the largest settlement concentrations in the West Bank. The Kfar Etzion, Rosh Tzurim, and other settlements encroach on Surif's lands. Highway 60 and the Tunnel Road (Route 60) bypass confiscated Palestinian land while connecting settlements to Jerusalem. The Separation Wall further isolates the town's western agricultural lands. In 2024, settlement outposts expanded on Surif's lands as part of a broader pattern of accelerated settlement construction in Hebron Governorate.
