Overview

Iksal is a Palestinian town in the Lower Galilee, located about 5 km southeast of Nazareth. The April 1945 Village Statistics lists an estimated population of 1,110; its population estimates refer to the end of 1944. The village came under Israeli control in 1948. The military-government mechanism was abolished nationally from 1 December 1966; this record does not verify the locality's own end date. Agricultural land was confiscated for Nazareth Illit and road construction. The town has grown to about 14,000 residents but faces severe overcrowding.

Historical Significance

A 2019 excavation report documents Byzantine and Umayyad walls uncovered in Iksal in 2017.

The 1922 census and 1945 Village Statistics support only the corrected observations and dated population wording; the 1945 figures are estimates referring to end of 1944, not a new census. The excavation report supports historical significance only. Other imported population, land, military-rule and period accounts remain unverified. The archived announcement supplies national context only and does not establish this locality's termination date. The inherited 1958 timeline entry is unverified. Other imported claims remain unreviewed.
