Overview
Beit Ummar is a Palestinian town located approximately 11 km north of Hebron city, along Highway 60. An ancient settlement with a rich agricultural heritage, Beit Ummar has historically been one of the most productive farming communities in the Hebron Governorate. Since 1967, the town has faced extreme pressure from settlement expansion on three sides: Karmei Zur to the south, Migdal Oz to the east, and Kfar Etzion and Efrat to the north. Approximately 4,000 dunums have been confiscated for settlements and bypass roads. The Israeli authorities plan to construct 5 km of the Separation Wall on the north and east sides, which will confiscate an additional 450 dunums and isolate 400 dunums behind the Wall.
Historical Significance
Known for hosting the largest fruit market in the southern West Bank before restrictions. Long history of popular resistance.
