Overview

Bani Na'im is a Palestinian town located approximately 8 km east of Hebron city, on the eastern slopes of the Judean Hills overlooking the Dead Sea and Jordan Valley. The town sits at an elevation of 940-1,020 meters and covers a total area of 157,000 dunums, making it one of the largest land-area towns in Hebron Governorate. Historically, Bani Na'im was a major supplier of silica sand for the Hebron glass industry. Since 1967, the town has faced systematic land confiscation — 1,000 dunums confiscated since 2000 — settlement encroachment from Pene Hever, military checkpoints, and roadblocks that restrict movement and access to agricultural lands.

Historical Significance

Burial place of Prophet Lot (Lut), nephew of Abraham. Site where Abraham reportedly saw the smoke of Sodom and Gomorrah rising. Three Roman palace remnants are found in the town.
