The camp's residents are refugees ethnically cleansed from Jaffa, Ramleh, Lydd, Beersheba, and southern villages who have been confined to this camp for 76 years, denied their right of return. By 2023, the camp housed 66,889 UNRWA registered refugees. The camp was heavily damaged during the 2023-2026 war, with residential areas targeted in Israeli bombardment.
