Overview
Al-Mughraqa (also known as Abu Middein) is a Palestinian town in the Gaza Governorate, located 6 km southwest of Gaza City. The town's name comes from the Bedouin Abu Middein tribe that settled here. A Bronze Age settlement dating to the early 2nd millennium BCE was discovered in 1996, testifying to over 4,000 years of human habitation. During the 2023-2026 war, the Israeli military established the Netzarim Corridor through the town, bisecting it and displacing all residents. An Al-Azhar University campus was destroyed. Residents began returning only after the February 2025 ceasefire, finding over 2,800 buildings damaged or destroyed.
